Brittany’s Best of 2017 Weddings

The 2017 wedding is behind me, but is certainly not forgotten just yet. The blogging struggle is real you guys, but I promise I’ll never quit trying to be on my game. I’m on fire for my first 3-4 weddings and then it’s all down hill from there, so to make up for it I’ve decided to share my best of 2017. Last year was the most unique wedding season to date, Shelby and I were literally at a different venue or adventuring to a new place every weekend. Each one of these couples holds a special place in my heart! As I was scrolling and scrolling through thousands of images over the past week, I couldn’t help but get filled up watching all of the emotion grace my computer screen. Thank you to all of my 2017 couples who allowed me to be part of such an intimate and special day. I too, will cherish these memories!

We kicked off the year in Dundee with Leah and Steven Lerue, who are now anxiously expecting their first baby girl! June is always one of my favourite times of year to shoot because I get to shoot in all of this blush goodness. We may have started the day in blazing sun, hiding out in these pink blossoms but we ended with the prettiest sunset and calm waters, followed by some romantic boat shots that quickly turned into a hilarious beach hangout with the wedding party. Also, Leah and Steven had some serious fun on the D-Floor đŸ˜‰

We spent Canada Day weekend in Digby Celebrating with this classy couple, Kyle and Doug. First off, Kyla was the most gorgeous timeless looking bride. I have been so obsessed with these simple dresses, sometimes less really is more. Pair that with gorgeous blooms from The Flower Shop and it’s perfection!

I was SO pumped that we had an overcast day and that the tide went out, sine we had been watching it all morning. What a stunning spot for bridal portraits and every other kind of portrait really! Kyla and Doug shared the sweetest first look. Doug’s reaction gets me everytime! Look at how excited they were to see each other…

I realized after the fact that this was NOT Kyla’s wedding ring but it was too pretty to not post and since I’ve only been prepping this blog for a full week… The ring shot is staying right where it is!

One of my favourite times of the day! The bride and her girls hanging out laughing and making a mess popping bubbly.

We jumped back to Dundee for my fellow photographer friends, Leslie and Jordan’s wedding. I was so honoured to be asked to photograph this day. It was SO intimate and well thought out. I love a good backyard wedding and a surprise wedding dance to boot. These two had been hitting up dance classes for quite some time to try and master this epic dance that was performed by Julianne and Derek Hough. It’s safe to say that Lesley and Jordan are not afraid of adventure or taking a little risk. It was a bit rainy on their day but it certainly didn’t bother them. We did however make sure that dance floor was nice and dry so there were no wipe outs. You can check out their wedding video here, which was shot by my sister Lakyn!

Keltic Lodge weddings seriously never let me down. Fallon and Brayden were one of my two “Tiny and Tall” couples. Fallon is as cute as a button and I love that the top of her cute little red head only reaches Brayden’s shoulder. With wedding details like a Katrina Tuttle gown, Oh Dina hair pieces and Calligraphy by Amy you know it’s going to be a dream day. You can see Fallon and Brayden’s full wedding featured over on Styled in Lace đŸ™‚

This may not have been a real wedding, but it was most certainly a highlight of 2017. Anything you get to do with Elegant Productions is always a highlight! They are full of vision and fire when it comes to their work and I love getting to collaborate with them and the long list of talented vendors that always comes along with that. Our styled shoot at Lightfoot and Wolfville was breathtaking and I am so excited to visit there again this summer. You can view the full shoot along with vendor details over on Styled in Lace.

Another Elegant Production… Lauren and Clayton! Ill start by saying that when I arrived on the wedding day I thought Lauren could have walked down the isle with no makeup and she would have looked just as stunning. Then Chantelle Brown (MUA) did her thing and we were all like, WOW! One of my favourite highlights of the day aside from all of the love and emotion of the day, was when Lauren and Clayton got to see their reception space for the first time. I was so happy I got to be there to capture Lauren’s tears of joy, it was such a sweet moment. You can view Lauren and Clayton’s wedding film here, it was filmed by the talented ladies from Arrow and Knot Productions.

I am obsessed with this location for wedding portraits! It’s actually an apartment building located in the north end of Halifax.

The detail on this cake is out of this world! All of those flowers are made of icing… like WOW, way to Meaghan!

Chelsea Lee Flowers knocked it out of the park on these elegant centrepieces!

You may notice that Tammy and Michael’s wedding looked both sunny and rainy. Unfortunately, all we had was rain on their wedding day but that didn’t stop these two from having the best time, and I think we certainly made up for in during our “Day After Session”. Sonya from Beechwood and Birch, along with Trinity’s Florals did a little collab to recreate some wedding details for Tammy and Michael. This farm wedding was one for the books thats for sure.

Michelle and Kenny… This wedding is what blush wedding dreams are made of. These little cuties got married right here in Sydney just minutes from Michelle’s childhood home, where she got ready.

I just LOVE black and white shots of the groom… Especially this one of Kenny anxiously waiting to see his bride for the first time.

Fave bridesmaids dresses… I don’t think blush will ever get old for me!

Michelle had the best laugh and expressions… I always love these fun reception shots!

A wedding wouldn’t be complete without these two wedding guests. I’m not sure the total number of weddings Jess and Jo have actually attended but it seems like they might be catching up to me seeing as they are my supper buddies at every wedding. It’s a  a highlight getting to see all of the wedding guests that I know at weddings every weekend.

Sara and Dave said I do at Carabin Farms! I’ve known Sara for about thirteen years, so it always makes it that much more special when you get to photograph a couple you’ve known for so long.

This was one of my favourite photos of the season, there are actually a few different ones and it was so hard to just pick one. Sara had these confetti poppers she didn’t know what to do with and I suggested giving them to a few of her wedding guests that were standing toward the back so they could pop them as they were walking out from their ceremony. Now we did spend the ENTIRE day picking confetti out of Sara’s hair and other places due to a wedding guest that dumped the confetti down Sara’s chest but I think it was worth it. These photos are so authentic and joy filled and I just love the look on their faces. Thanks for being good sports Sara and Dave!

This was by far one of the most emotional moments of my entire wedding career. Dave’s sweet grandfather was unfortunately in the hospital and could not be there for the wedding day. Dave, his father and grandfather share a special bond through their careers as firefighters. It was heartbreaking yet so beautiful to watch Dave show his grandfather his wedding ring which once was his. Sadly, he passed away about a month after the wedding and although I didn’t even know this sweet man it’s pretty clear to see he left a pretty epic legacy. After this moment, I was reminded that this is the reason I do what I do… Sure the flowers, makeup and all of the other wedding details excite me but this is the stuff that really gets me. The moments we can’t get back. Thank you Sara and Dave for allowing me to be here to capture this intimate moment for you and your family.

Karen-Lynn and Carson were the youngest of our wedding couples this year, which I absolutely love since I was also a very young bride. Although Karen you had a few years on me đŸ˜‰ Their love was so sweet to document, and shooting at sunset in Louisbourg is always a win.

Gorgeous wedding decor setup by Sonya from Beechwood and Birch.

Britt and Steve were my very first couple to book for 2017 and my second “Tiny and Tall” of the season (hehe). Britt would be like “Girl I don’t know what you are going to do with Steve and I for our photos!”. I told her this is what engagement sessions are for, and it’s safe to say after this year I definitely upped my game photographing couples with large height differences. We definitely made Steve sit down lots to get those heads nice and close đŸ˜‰

An unplanned first look that Brit shared with her grandfather… This photo gets me!

One of my favourite ring sets of the season! I love that Kyla and Travis have matching rings, they look so classic and sharp!

These two had the most laid back day ever… Intimate weddings have stolen my heart completely! We literally had so much time to relax and have fun together. We spent a solid hour and a bit running around this gorgeous field with them along with their best man and maid of honour. It was so stress free and fun!

I love when brides use layers like this to mix up their wedding day look! I think this little number is so chic.

Bridesmaid goals!

Our very first wedding on a boat! This was such a special wedding… Kristy spent so much time on this sailboat growing up, and sailing around the world with her family.

What better way to celebrate than to have all of your closest family and friends out for a sail in Baddeck?

Okay Chris and Breagh had the most adorable back yard wedding, and how cute are these grape vines that Breagh got ready under?

My favourite thing about Breagh and Chris was how playful and comfortable they were with each other. They definitely made my job easy and were willing to do whatever ridiculous thing I requested of them, including sticking it out in the rain for a few minutes to get the shots.

Shelby and I were all tears during Breagh and Chris’s first dances, but this special dance with her grandfather set us over the edge. I love when couples make the people who matter most to them, a part of their day in special ways like this.

And they didn’t stop at the first dances, these two love birds were dancing the night away and soaking it all up!

Can your say bride goals? I couldn’t stop telling Jenn that she looked like “a bride” all day… Well obviously, but I think when every little girl imagines being a bride and they have this picture in their head, this might be something along the lines of what they imagine. From the hair, makeup, and that AMAZING dress… Jenn had it going on!

And when she was accompanied by her handsome groom they really came to life. Andrew is such a gentlemen and I just loved the way he looked at his beautiful bride. These were some of of my favourite bride and groom portraits of the season!

And then there was their party, which we stayed for the entire night. We were leaving with the last guests that were there. True North DJs sure knows how to get the party going, and these folks knew how to dance. We had so much tearing up the dance floor with Andrew and Jenn and all of their friends and fam.

Most hilarious wedding party award goes to Susie and Jeff’s crew. This was probably because Sherri Poirier was standing in the wedding, and if you know this girl you’ll know what I’m talking about.

Susie told her florist Trinity that she wanted the biggest bouquet she could possibly get, and I think it might take the most unique bouquet award… I didn’t think I was actually giving out awards over here but it turns out that each wedding is SO unique and had their own extra special touches. I also think we can all agree that Susie’s bouquet was #goals…

Cutest baby award goes to Mr. Wilson đŸ˜‰ hehe

Susie and Jeff had a very intimate wedding ceremony in this quaint little museum that used to be a church. Susie found out after booking The St.Patricks Museum that she had ancestors that went to this church way back when… How cool is that?

Even thought Susie and Jeff shared a first look and did all of their photos before the ceremony, that didn’t stop Jeff from feeling all the feelings when he saw her walk down the isle. His reaction was priceless and I can’t believe I get to document moments like this. This might me one of my favourite candid photos taken to date.

This enchanting set up was a team effort by Beechwood and Birch and Trinity’s Florals. You can view Susie and Jeff’s full wedding blog post here, which also has some very helpful tips attached to throwing a wedding under 15k.

My fave wedding photographer Sherri and her hubby Adam outside for some snuggles at Susie and Jeff’s reception at Flavor on the Water. I love this space for wedding receptions!

And then I got to stand in my first wedding ever! My sister in law Amy got married, and although I wasn’t the one shooting the wedding day that didn’t stop me from snagging a few shots of Amy before she went off to share her first look with Roscoe!

My favourite wedding detail was this stunning Calligraphy and menu design by Elegant Paper Co, chargers from MacFarlands, Blush plates and gold flatware from IKEA and we can’t forget those handmade, dip dyed napkins made by yours truly!

And then we finished the year off with a bang for Justin an Nicole’s cozy winter wedding that took place at Membertou Trade and Convention Centre and The Hampton Inn!

Customized socks for the girls made by my lovely second shooter Shelby! You can check out Kozy Capers here for more of her cute custom creations!

These two couldn’t have asked for a more perfect winter wedding day. The light was epic, and thankfully it wasn’t too cold.
