Shenna + Dennis | A simplified Rustic Wedding in Iona | By Brittany

Untitled-8

I realize I’m just a TAD late on blogging this wedding, but almost a year has passed and it’s still one of my favourites. That being said, there’s a little piece of me that won’t be content till I share this wedding. Sheena’s family is a perfect example for the reason why I am a photographer. Yes I LOVE taking photos, I love creating beautiful things, it will forever be a HUGE part of my identity. I am a creator and an artist. However, there is a much bigger picture and creating pretty things isn’t my “why”. The people I meet everyday, the couples who I grow relationships with, and the moms of brides who come up to me at the end of wedding season over flowing with kind words… This is my why. Being able to serve people and connect with individuals I may not ever cross paths with in this life. Also, being a part of one of their most cherished days, and getting to know them brings me so much joy. Moving onto my point, and shutting up about myself… Sheena’s family was one I seemed to keep bumping into this past summer. I think we hit a record of maybe four weddings together, and bumping into each other everywhere else including yoga at breathing space!

I’m going to be completely honest, last summer I was BURNT OUT. I won’t get into the details but nearing the end of wedding season I felt like a zombie who had nothing left to give. When you are burnt out, many other feelings come with that, including the “I’m not good enough” and wait for it… “Why am I doing this to myself?”. So it was one of my last weddings of the season and Sheena’s mom was there of course. She came up to me, and kindly said how it was such a pleasure getting to know me this summer, and how sweet of a young lady I am. I needed to hear those words so badly in that moment, and funny that I was thinking the exact same thing about them! This really stuck out to me and serves as a reminder of why I do what I do. I thought it was only appropriate to share this story because it’s one of the reasons this wedding was very special to me. Oh the things you learn and how you grow in this business. It’s amazing!

Sheena and Dennis on the other hand… These two are sweeter than apple pie. Their personalities were so fun to shoot, with Dennis’ fun quirkiness to Sheena’s soft, elegant cuteness (yes that’s how I describe people, I’m clearly not a writer) they were a dream to work with. And of course I was in instant swoon mode when Sheena told me she had not one but two dresses, and not just two dresses, a gorgeous beaded blush maxi. double win for my creativity fuel. Throw Trinity’s Florals in the mix and you can find me tearing up with excitement. Oh, and they are both teachers so naturally we just had to shoot in the old school house in Iona where they were married. It doesn’t stop there though, Sheena and Dennis had such a FUN wedding party. You guys, I love fun wedding parties. We danced, we laughed, they even took behind the scenes shots of ME! haha how thoughtful! Anyway… This was a special wedding and I could go on and on about every detail I loved but I won’t this time, I am just so happy to finally show these two lovely people on the blog today.

Sheena and Dennis, Thank you again for letting me capture your beautiful day <3
