I’m really not even sure where to begin with this post because if I take it back too far you’ll probably stop reading half way through. I can tend to write short novels, I know…
Christina and Blaze don’t have your typical love at first sight, start dating, get engaged and so on… Their paths actually crossed five years ago through an organization called Y.W.A.M. (Youth with a Mission) and during their time together there were no obvious signs of “This is the one”. I always like hearing that love stories started with friendship first because I believe it sets a good foundation to a relationship. Years passed and although I did not even know Christina when she first met Blaze, it wasn’t too long into our friendship that I started hearing about this California dream boat (No she didn’t use those words, but this is how I perceived him when she talked about him). I still remember Christina gushing over Blaze and how he was pretty much close to perfect, from his obvious good looks to his intentions with their relationship. I watched Christina go through this long distance relationship and it was really impressive how these two made it work, even though it was super tough at times. I really admire how hard they worked at making time for each other when they were apart and I know they will do the same as they continue their lives together in marriage.
When Christina and Blaze asked me to document their wedding day, my first thought was “Yay! I get to go to Cali!”. I haven’t done much traveling yet so this was pretty exciting for me. Also,Tim and I have always wanted to do a road trip to California (yes, we like to drive). This seemed like the perfect opportunity to finally take our road trip, but things didn’t go my way because the only thing more uncomfortable than flying across the country while seven months pregnant is driving… But the whole pregnancy thing wasn’t holding me back from shooting this dreamy wedding. Luckily things worked out and I was able to fly, even though I was pretty much nearing the cut off! My few days spent in the sunshine state were much needed and although I was there for work it really didn’t feel that way. It was such a fun, and laid back wedding weekend from our first spray tan experiences, manicures, slumber parties in the cutest of cute B&B’s, coffee on the veranda at six am every morning and loads of laughter. Seriously the list goes on, I wish I could sit and re cap every funny moment but my pregnant self is screaming at me to step away from my computer to stretch. In all seriousness, it was one of those short and sweet trips that I knew as soon as it was over I would be instantly sad. I keep saying to Christina how I wish we could have slowed it all down because there were just so many memories made that I want to hold onto.
As for the actual wedding, well there really are no words… It was perfect in every way! The simplicity of this wedding is really what made it so unique and special. I can truly say the focus was entirely on these two, it wasn’t about the silly details that usually get brides going crazy or having mini melt downs mid wedding day. It wasn’t about pleasing family members or guests either, everyone was so easy going and really wanted to make this day as special as possible for Christina and Blaze. Even if that meant pulling a sewing team together to sew seven new bow ties from scratch because the ones they ordered were the wrong colour (ahh, fun times).
Thank you Blaze and Christina for giving me such a big role to play on your wedding day, and especially trusting me at 32 weeks pregnant to do just as good of a job as I usually would. Most people would take their chances on flying a preggo this late in the game to shoot their wedding! It was worth every ache and contraction the night before the wedding 😉 You guys are the best and I can’t wait to come visit again. xo
