Dawn Binns | Maternity | By Michelle and Brittany

I call it the calm before the storm but since talking to Dawn the other day it didn’t sound much like a storm for her and Tyler.

Dawn gave birth to a beautiful baby boy this past week, so clearly we are late getting some of our sessions posted. We had quite the string of beautiful pregnant women walk through our doors this winter for maternity sessions and it became one of our favourite things to shoot. Often women don’t want their photograph taken when 30 some weeks pregnant but we can promise when you leave, you will walk away feeling very thankful for doing it anyway. Dawn and Tyler are such a sweet, down to earth couple and we know already they are doing an amazing job at being mom and dad. Instead of rambling on about how awesome this session was, I want to share the words of wisdom that Dawn shared with me the other day about the whole giving birth experience. It was some of the most honest and genuine advice anyone has given me. I’m not sure if it’s because she is a first time mom and our dates are so close or what but it really meant a lot and has put me at ease these past few days. So anyway, here is my message from Dawn after asking her if it was okay that I post her photos on the blog!

“Brittany, you are seriously going to love being a mom. I am sure people have told you, as I was told many times… But it’s the most amazing feeling in the world that I never really understood until I held him in my arms. I am so shocked at how easily we fell into a routine and how quickly we adjusted to being parents. It feels like the most natural thing in the world. . I was in labor for 30 hours and it really wasn’t bad. So don’t be scared! I was expecting a lot worse! But the epidural was such a blessing! I wasn’t going to get one, but I was stuck at 4cms and getting tired and sore. As soon as I was able to relax, I went from 4 to 10 in less than an hour, so when people tell you epidurals slow down the process… Don’t listen just listen to your body, because you will know what’s best! You will do great I love my maternity pictures and I am so glad I got them done. It would be awesome to see them on the blog I am just sooo excited for baby pictures now Take it easy, don’t work too hard and enjoy your last couple weeks being pregnant. (Hopefully less!) I know the days leading up to delivery drag on, but as soon as baby arrives, being sore and tired and bloated will seem like a distant memory.”
