I’ve had a bit of a late start on wedding season this year and Jenn & Jamie are the pair I officially kicked off wedding season 2016 with and boy I couldn’t have asked for a better pair . I have been like a kid waiting for Christmas to get underway with shooting weddings. I am happy to say I am in full swing and I can’t wait to share Jamie and Jenn’s day with you.
I knew back in the winter meeting up with Jenn and her mom at Starbucks that this one was going to be special. I was right! when you show up to document a wedding and you are welcomed like a guest/family member it immediately sets the tone and you know your in for a great day! The wedding took place at Jenns family home, the home her dad grew up in. I had so much fun with her details and was given full reign of the house to use what I pleased. We had quilts, china, her grandmothers perfume ( Channel 5). I forgot to pick up some cheesecloth for details, I had an inkling they may have some of course they did( a whole bolt). I even raided the basement digging out a beautiful pale green settee and some old books ( all of which you will see throughout my post) . The ceremony took place under two big ole apple trees planted by Jenn’s grandfather. We shot Jenn’s engagement ring along side of her two grandmothers rings. There is also a little story behind these rings, they were chosen by her great uncle for her great aunt back in 1928. You can see how rich this day was with layers of history and love.
I often say its so important to connect with your bride/groom but there is another level to it when you feel that connection with the family as well. Jenn’s mom is behind a major part of the details for this beautiful backyard wedding. From the flowers lining the sides of the Isle ( yes she picked them from the side of the road and placed them in metal buckets) to the wildflowers scattered about the tables, to the vintage inspired bunting hung in the tent. Even Jenn’s dad had a hand in the wedding making and bottling all of the wine ( he calls it Clarence Field Estate as that was the name of the home years ago) This backyard wedding to me gave me a sense of home and I almost felt like I was a little girl again surrounded by plants, and strawberries, and home baking and all of those things I could relate to growing up with my grandmother. I don’t know the grandmothers or grandfathers who helped shape this family but I can say I felt their presence.
Jenn & Jamie thank you both it was truly an honour to be a part of this beautiful celebration! Its couples like you that I say to myself ” Wow I love what I do” and am humbled to know that I could help preserve another piece of history for your family.
